Yes, I don’t think Craig understands what the concept of an individual in society is all about. The easiest way to explain it to put it very simply thus: the smallest minority is an individual. One way to look at all of human history is as a progression towards elimination of the tyranny of the majority; because if we protect the individual, we effectively protect all of us. Democracy as tyranny of the majority is not good, what is good is Democracy with rules, rules that protect the individual.

If we look at all of society from the outside, we observe certain group behaviors that tempt us to restrict freedom of the individual. Instead, if we start from the individual, we come up with rules that allow the individual to be free, and yet be a very productive part of the whole (assuming that all individuals behave in their self-interest). The rules we come up with would be the bill of rights as embodied in the first ten amendments of the U.S. constitution.
